Robert Mylne

In 1760, after winning the competition to design the new bridge over the Thames, Robert Mylne was appointed surveyor of the construction of Blackfriars bridge. The bridge opened in 1769 and Mylne went on to become a surveyor to St Paul's Cathedral, a fellow of the Royal Society and general surveyor to the Stationers' Company.
