Introduction

The house stands on a small hill over looking the garden, which is laid out on the sloping banks. The west garden has a grass terrace leading to extensive rose beds and the steeper slopes are planted with ground cover plants. The north garden is protected from cold winds by an avenue of poplars which frame the east end of Ely Cathedral across the fen in the distance.
