The garden lies in a sheltered valley 850 feet above sea level. There are many Himalayan plants and trees, including 700 different types of rhododendron, over 150 types of azalea and 100 different magnolias.
The garden was first planted in the early-20th century. The site is now incorporated in The Himalayan Garden, which displays acid-loving plants such as Rhododendrons, Magnolias and Azalias, and has a walled formal garden.
