Brief Description
A number of the original gardens still exist, laid out in long, narrow burghage plots along the main street. Some of the burghage plots were combined by the wealthier house owners, thus creating larger areas for more expressive gardening. These are discussed as separate component areas.
History
The town of Cowbridge, founded in the 13th century, was laid out in long, narrow burghage plots along the main street. The plots would have run back from the rear of the houses, and most would have been used for practical purposes, including the growing of fruit and vegetables.
