Conduit Head Road 'De Stijl'

Introduction

Features of De Stijl include a garden terrace, a lawn and a shrub boundary.

The full-length living room windows open on to a rectangular paved terrace with simple garden chairs. The lawns come to the edge of the house, where there is a simple edging filled with low growing plants. The lawn is mown up to the edge of the mixed tree and shrub boundary screen planting. The simplicity of the house is reflected by the minimalist simplicity of the garden.
History

This Bauhaus-style single-storey white house was built in the 1930s for Mrs J. Whitt, a retired fashion journalist, who had spent most of her life in mid-19th century villas, cluttered with possessions.
