Galston, Scotland

Brief Description

Cessnock is a 15th-century house with a mansion house added to it, situated on the outskirts of Galston.

History

The oldest parts of the house at Cessnock date from the 15th century, although it was much altered subsequently. In the mid-18th century there was a formal designed landscape with radiating avenues. Oak was planted in the early-19th century. The house was restored for the Duke of Portland at the end of the 19th century. It was sold in about 1945 to a descendent of the Campbell of Loudon family that built the original keep. The house is now a private residence in divided ownership.
