History

In the 17th century Pennoxstone was an agricultural estate.

A new house and stable block were built for the lawyer John Roberts in 1714, with some tree-planting.

The park appears to have been formed in the early 19th century.

The property was bought in 1863 by Sir Edward Cockburn, when there were ornamental and kitchen gardens. Soon afterwards the house was rebuilt.
