Doonholm 4159

Brief Description

The private estate at Doonholm is situated just south of Ayr on the River Doon. The designed landscape was laid out in the first half of the 19th century, possibly when the house was enlarged, and included parkland, an avenue and general policy planting.

The lands at Doonholm belonged to the town of Ayr until the mid-18th century. A house was built in the latter part of the 18th century by the Ferguson family, which was subsequently added to several times. The designed landscape was in place by the mid-19th century.
