Brief Description
The estate of Doonside is situated on the south bank of the River Doon and was once the site of Brigend Castle, now in ruins. The mansion house was demolished in the 1960s.
History
By the mid-18th century the house at Doonside sat in a walled enclosure with tree-lined parks and woodland planting. Mid-19th-century maps show the castle in ruins and a house with orchards and an avenue. The woodland appears to have declined by the early-20th century but to have been replanted later that century.
