- History
The Italianate and rose gardens were designed to display William Waldorf Astor’s collection of Italian sculpture. With 1000 men working on the garden, the whole area was constructed and fully planted in four years between 1904 and 1908. The Italian garden covers 30 acres of the site, and the rose garden forms one area within it.
