Brief Description

Chippenham is a historic medieval common in the centre of Monmouth, situated on level ground between the rivers Wye and Monnow. Straight tree-lined paths were laid out in the early-20th century.

History

The medieval common in the centre of Monmouth became an 18th-century venue for urban walking and was used in this century and the next as a horse-racing circuit. It is currently a public park with a sports ground, bowling green and tennis court.
