Brief Description

Calder Abbey is an 18th century house which is surrounded by parkland. The Abbey was originally founded in 1134 but became ruinous after the dissolution of the monasteries in 1536. Some stone was used to build the new house but the rest of the structure remains as a feature within the park.

History

A new house was built alongside Calder Abbey in the 18th century. A landscape park was also created at this time. The abbey was founded as a Benedictine Monastery in 1134. It became ruinous after its dissolution in 1536.
