Brief Description
The house at Ardmillan burnt down in the mid-20th century and was demolished. Much of the estate woodland survives on hills behind the site of the castle. Part of the site is now occupied by a caravan park.
History
The history of Ardmillan goes back to the 16th century, when there was a tower house with an enclosed park and some planting. By the mid-18th century there was formal planting around the house and further woodland planting in the wider estate. The house was extended in the 18th century and later destroyed by fire in the mid-20th century.
