The formal gardens, which date from the 17th century, consist of lawns and borders of 9.7 hectares surrounding the house.

The formal garden area contains many different schemes and areas including a knot garden, herbaceous borders, summer house, orangery and a Dutch canal, although it is unclear how many of these features remain.
