Brief Description

The house became an hotel in 1831, but the grounds were developed during the expansion of Douglas in the late 19th century. Very little of the garden now remains. The building is still an hotel. Please see: http://www.gov.im/tourism/conferences/venues/castle_mona_hotel.xml

History

The house was built by the 4th Duke of Atholl. The drive plantings and shelter belts were commenced in the 1810s. Soon after, ornamental trees and shrubs were laid out amongst rocks, an American garden and walks to a waterfall.
