History

The site originally had a 13th century nunnery, which was surrounded with planting in the mid-18th century. A kitchen garden was also created. The house was rebuilt in 1823, and over the next half century it was given a walled park with clumps, belt and railings against the pleasure grounds, a tree-lined drive and summerhouses.
