Whitchester is known for its mid-20th-century woodland garden and rhododendron collection. Earlier features are a late-19th-century exotic woodland and a small formal garden around the house dating from the same period.
The designed landscape at Whitchester House was originally laid out in about 1820. The gardens were developed in the late-19th century after the farmhouse was enlarged, and the rhododendron garden was established in the mid-20th century. The rhododendron gardens are currently being rejuvenated with the help of Teen Challenge.
