Brief Description

Little remains of the designed landscape on the Stair estate save a few small clumps and Stair Wood.

History

Stair was associated with the Dalrymple family during the 17th century. The house had links with Robert Burns. A designed landscape of orchards, parks, gardens and woods was described in the early-18th century. By the mid-18th century there was a small-scale formal landscape with radiating avenues. Most of this planting had gone by the mid-19th century.
