History

There is place-name evidence locally for an ancient park.

The present park appears to date from the end of the 18th century, and may be related to the landscaper John Davenport's visit in 1792.

Map evidence shows that the park was gradually laid out during the 19th century.

In the early 20th century there was a parterre next to the house.
