Kildonan (also known as Kildonne, Kildonnan, Kildonan House)3935

Barhill, Scotland

Brief Description

The early-20th-century house at Kildonan is situated on the banks of the Duisk River. The estate is well-wooded.

History

A designed landscape had been laid out at Kildonan by the late-18th century but may date back to the 17th century. Further woodland planting had taken place by the mid-19th century. Between 1915 and 1923 a new house was built by James Miller for Captain David Euan Wallace MP, perhaps replacing an earlier ruined house. The property has been used as a boarding house, a hotel and as units for self-catering holidays.
