The Memorial Gardens, were previously known as Grosvenor Gardens and were initially laid out as private square gardens in 1877. The gardens were for the use of home owners whose properties overlooked the garden. At the eastern end of the gardens are two ornate lions, which once stood outside the entrance to the Criterion Cinema in Hull.
