Mr Robert E. Lee

Robert E Lee was a career US Army officer, a celebrated military commander, and confederate war hero. His family originated from Shropshire, and they owned and lived at Coton Hall from the 14th century until 1821, when it passed out of the hands of the family upon the death of Harry Lancelot Lee. Robert E. Lee's family left Shropshire for America in the 17th century, with most of the family returning after one or two years. However, Lee's branch stayed and forged a new life for themselves in the United States. Coton Hall is a popular destination for those interested in the life of the US general.
