Francis Bacon

Sir Francis Bacon was a gardener, essayist and statesman active in the late-16th and early-17th centuries. His famous essay Of Gardens was published in 1625. In addition to his own garden at Gray's Inn, Holborn, England from 1608 Bacon began to restore the gardens of his father, at Gorhambury in Hertfordshire, England which he had inherited in 1601.
