District of Point Memorial Garden 8441

Isle of Lewis, Scotland

Brief Description

This memorial garden has an arched gateway with inscription, and is enclosed by a circular stone wall. The stone was reclaimed from derelict buildings in the area, having been donated by descendants. Some of those commemorated are likely to have lived in the houses from which the stone was re-used. Four inscribed granite tablets are set into a wall at the rear of the garden, naming the dead of both World Wars.

History

The garden and memorial were created in 2004 by the residents of the area. The site was unveiled by the descendants of those commemorated on the memorial.
