William Stark, architect, was born in Dunfermline, Fife, on 25th May 1770. Having spent short periods in St Petersburg, Russia, he returned to Scotland and experiemented with the Neo-Classical and Greek Revival styles. Posthumously, Sir Walter Scott suggest that ‘more genius died than is left behind among the collected universality of Scottish architects’.
