William Falla was a nurseryman who took over the Gateshead nurseries in 1781 after the death of George Dale. Dale had first set up the Gateshead nurseries in 1734 at Hebburn Quay.
William Falla developed the nurseries into one of the foremost suppliers of trees in the north of England.
