William Ewart Gladstone

William Ewart Gladstone, prime minister and author, was born to Sir John Gladstone, first baronet, and his second wife, Anne, née Robertson. Gladstone had a vibrant political career and served as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 1852-1855 and then served as Prime Minister. Upon marrying Catherine Glynn, Gladstone became linked to the Hawarden estate in north Wales. William Ewart Gladstone died on 19 May 1898.
