Tom Stuart-Smith

Tom Stuart-Smith read Landscape Design at Manchester University and has been practising as a landscape architect since 1984. After a period working with landscape architect Hal Moggridge and then Michael Brown, he joined Elizabeth Banks Associates and became a director of the company. He set up his own practice in 1999.

Much of Stuart-Smith's work is concerned with historic gardens, including the restoration of the arboretum at Eastnor Castle, Herefordshire, and restoration plans for St Paul's Walden Bury in Hertfordshire, Hall Barn in Buckinghamshire and Trewithen in Cornwall.

He has recently transformed the 19th-century Italian garden at Trentham in Staffordshire, one of the largest formal gardens in England.
