Robert Sydney

Younger brother of Sir Philip Sydney, Robert Sydney inherited the family estate at Penshurst Place, Kent. He was also heir to the Warwick and Leicester uncles, and he married a rich Welsh heiress. They were responsible for The Long Gallery (1601) and state rooms at Penshurst.

The Earldom of Leicester was conferred on Robert in 1618.
