Son of F.C. Pudddle, Charles Puddle succeeded his father as head gardener at Bodant in 1947. He retired from the post in 1982 and was succeeded in turn by his son Martin Puddle. Charles Puddle was awarded the Victoria Medal of Honor by the Royal Horticultural Society.
