Andrew Wilson

Who was Andrew Wilson?

Andrew Wilson was an eminent Scottish landscape artist involved in the designing of Hopetoun House's grounds. He was born in Edinburgh in 1780.

Life and Work

Wilson designed a small Grecian temple folly. It was intended to become an entrance to a tunnel under Hanover Street, connecting to the East Gardens, but unfortunately this tunnel was never built.

Whilst in London, he was one of the original members of the Associated Artists (1808), and held for a period the position of teacher of drawing in Sandhurst Military College.
