Marianne North
From the age of 40, the Victorian artist Marianne North travelled the world, from South America to South-East Asia. With an interest in botany, North recorded not only landscapes, but flora and fauna and, consequently, has six species registered in her name. Her paintings are displayed in a gallery at Kew Gardens, Surrey.
