John Rivers, the second of that name, succeeded his uncle, Thomas Rivers, the first. He worked until his retirement in 1792.
During his tenure as head of the family business he concentrated on providing plants for great houses with estate gardens, not only fruit trees but also roses, shrubs and conifers.
