Scampston Hall

Scampston Hall, home to Christopher & Miranda Legard and their family, is one of the finest examples of a regency country house in North Yorkshire. The first house was built around 1700 and was remodelled to a design by Thomas Leverton in 1795-1800. This is the house as you see it today, with its magnificent Regency interiors and art collection Christopher & Miranda love to share their beautiful home and gardens, whether it be as a special venue for a wedding, a setting for a corporate event, or to day visitors keen to learn a little of the history of this fascinating building and to see the fine contents. Lovingly restored by the Legard's, this is a family home and there are no ropes or other barriers to be seen; Sir Charles, Christopher's father, assisted by a friendly team of guides, enjoys taking people round the hall in small groups so that everyone can see everything at close quarters and ask plenty of questions. The gardens, designed under 'Capability' Brown, include 10 acres of lakes and a Palladian bridge; redesigned in the 19th century with a rock and water garden and a 21st-century Walled Garden designed by Piet Oudolf, set within the 18th-century walls of the original kitchen garden.
