This activity is based on a series of enquiry questions. Each begins with background information, followed by examples of sources to use, and then suggested teaching approaches. Most of the sources can be easily obtained from your local record office, archives or your library’s local history section. Details of where to find others are given at the end.
The sources come from several parks around the country in order to demonstrate the wealth of material available. Although they may not be specific to your local park, you may wish to use them to illustrate some aspects of your investigation. You can download them from the local study gallery. Please note that they represent different periods, and some cannot be accurately dated.
This activity supports the teaching of the QCA History Unit 18 What wasit like to live here in the past? and, depending upon the age of the park, will support learning in the History Unit 12 How did life change in our locality in Victorian times? It can also link to cross-curricular work including the Geography Unit 6 Investigating our local area.
