Members of the Surrey Garden Trust met in Woking on 1 July for an introductory day to the Parks and Gardens UK website and database. A total of nine members of the Surrey Garden Trust came along for what proved to be a most interesting and informative day.
The day was run by John Warden, Data Manager for Parks and Gardens Data Services, ably assisted by Liz Chalstrey, Volunteer Coordinator.
The day started with an introduction to the Parks and Gardens UK project and the progress made so far. This was followed by a demonstration of the website, in particular how to use the search facilities to find parks and gardens and to link through from site records to people associated with them.
After lunch the volunteers were guided through the data entry system and shown how to create records of parks and gardens, using descriptions of gardens which they had previously researched.
