Parks & Gardens UK, A local history study: Historic public parks offer teachers a fascinating subject for a Local Study investigation in history. They provide tangible evidence of the lives of past communities; they encapsulate the values and tastes of the time; are easily accessible; and are familiar places to children. Bodelwyddan Castle and Park First World War Resource Pack Bodelwyddan Castle and Park boasts the presence of incredibly rare First World War practice trenches in the parkland. They are a historic, registered monument and are some of the best preserved of their kind in the UK. Access to the training trenches is granted through a pre-booked arrangement with Bodelwyddan Castle Trust. A resource pack for teachers has been put together to accompany a visit.
Heritage Explorer: Teachers can pick and mix from a database of over 10,000 images and find curriculum related resources, for all key stages, to use or adapt for their pupils. Managed by English Heritage.
World War I Handling Box: To complement curriculum-linked activities for pupils, Historic Scotland offers a range of resources for teachers including free handling box sessions at a variety of sites.These boxes offer a great opportunity for hands-on learning.
The Royal British Legion Learning Pack - 2014/15 This Learning Pack is free and produced for use with an accompanying CD ROM and DVD disk set, as a learning resource for a range of subjects including History, English and Citizenship, for Key Stages 1-4 and older students. It contains in-depth historical information, downloadable classroom resources, lesson plans, assembly ideas and witness testimonies in the form of case studies.
