  • England , Chippenham

    Lacock Abbey has 18th-century parkland, with the addition of 19th-century trees. There is a Victorian rose garden, woodland garden and a recently-developed botanic garden.

  • England , Notting Hill

    The Ladbroke Estate comprises 16 private communal gardens, each of which is fully detailed in the 'description' area of this record. There are vistas within the gardens, from the roads into the gardens through gates or gaps between semi-detached villas, and along the roads, often aligned on dominant buildings. The gardens are arranged concentrically on the sloping ground, with fourteen laid out behind the houses, and two in front of the houses.

    There are formal gardens laid out from the mid-19th century around an early-19th century mansion and set within extensive parkland with a ha-ha. In the late-19th century the gardens were re-designed to accompany an enlarged mansion in Italianate villa style.

    Lady Herbert's Garden is a public garden designed and laid out in the 1930s as a memorial garden to the wife of the Coventry industrialist, Sir Alfred Herbert. It lies near the city's ancient gates and incorporates part of the medieval city wall.

    The only buildings in the valley are two cottages which appear to be located on the site of outbuildings associated with the original house. The position of Ladyholt House is evident from brick and tile rubble in the ploughed field to the south-east of the cottages. With the exception of a bank of grassland, designated a Site of Nature Conservation Importance by West Sussex County Council, for its species-rich chalk grassland, the rest of the park is in arable production.

  • Scotland , Prestwick

    Ladykirk is situated just to the east of Prestwick airport. The house is encircled with planting and the estate incorporates the ruins of the Lady Kirk.

  • Scotland , Kilbirnie

    Ladyland is situated on sloping ground on the west bank of the Maich Water. The estate was noted in the mid-19th century for its fine old trees and new plantations of mixed deciduous and coniferous trees.

  • England , Greater London

    Behind the buildings is a courtyard garden with a central lawn surrounded by trees and shrubberies. There are several mature trees, in particular an old walnut tree, a kapuka tree, and a London plane tree in the hard games area. There are several shrubberies with a variety of shrubs and trees, and many potted plants, which enhance the facades of the newer buildings. With the construction of a new building in the grounds in 2010, a new pergola has been created and planted by this building.

    Ladymead House has the remains of a 17th-century walled garden which contained formal paths and parterres.

    Ladywell Cemetery is on uneven ground and is densely-packed with graves, which are generally more mundane than neighbouring Brockley Cemetery. Its chapel survives, north-west of which the serpentine paths are now asphalted. The cemetery is walled along Ivy Road. There is a dense collection of 19th-century monuments, a war memorial and Imperial War Graves Commission Enclosure.

  • Scotland , Ballantrae

    The designed landscape at Laggan House is situated to the south of the River Stinchar. It is associated with a late-19th-century house, which may have replaced an earlier one. A holiday park has been established at the east end of the site.

  • Scotland , Fife

    Lahill is a good example of a mid-19th-century villa set within a contemporary 'gardenesque' landscape. Relatively rare and modest in scale, the site retains its character, with a marked contrast between the inner parkland, haughland and long-distance panoramic views.

  • Scotland , Maybole

    A designed landscape consisting of parkland and other planting was in place at Laigh Grange by the late-18th century, but may have originated earlier. The house associated with it later disappeared but there are presently other dwellings on the site.

  • Scotland , Stewarton

    The estate at Lainshaw lies to the north of the River Annick on the outskirts of Stewarton and contains areas of woodland with wildlife interest despite recent development. The house has been restored and converted into flats and an associated housing development occupies part of the former policies.

    Lainston House has the remains of early formal gardens, walled gardens and a park, extending to approximately 40 hectares. The gardens date from the late-17th to early-18th centuries. The site is now a hotel open to guests and diners.
