Brief description of site

Bettisfield Hall has the part-walled and part-earthwork remains of a late-16th- to early-17th-century terraced garden. The house belonged to the Hanmer family at that time and was possibly the childhood home of the famous horticulturalist Sir Thomas Hanmer.

Brief history of site

Owned by the Hanmer family for many generations, Bettisfield Hall was sold out of the family in the 20th century. The present gardens feature a newly-established Heritage Welsh orchard and a green oak furniture workshop.
