Brief description of site

The oldest remaining trees in the policies at Balbithan House date to the mid-19th century but the present gardens are known for the plant collections built up there from the 1960s.

Brief history of site

The botanical artist, Mrs Mary McMurtrie, bought Balbithan in 1960. She created a garden specialising in roses, violas, pinks and primulas, and also featuring many native wild flowers.
