It was written by Michael Devenish, a retired conservation architect, formerly in private practice in London and then Leeds from 1975 to 2013, and who took a Masters degree in History & Theory of Architecture at Cambridge University in 1984-5. He is a member of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC) and Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).
